Scott Murray

Scotland B international Scott started off as a youngster with Fraserburgh before Aston Villa paid a record fee to a Highland League club of £35,000 to take him to Villa Park in 1994.

He moved on to Bristol City in 1997 in search of regular first team football, and the move was to prove a hugely successful one. He was the club’s top scorer in 2002/03 and hit 46 goals in 225 league games before joining Reading for £650,000 in 2003.

But he was soon back at Bristol City, where he was appointed club captain and helped the Robins reach the play-off final against Brighton.

After a loan spell with Cheltenham Town in 2008 he moved on to Yeovil Town in 2009, before ending his career with non-league Bath City.

He is now back at his Ashton Gate spiritual home as the club’s kitman.

I started my career as a part-timer in the Highland League while I was working in a fish processing factory and a few months later I was playing in front of big crowds in the Premier League for Aston Villa. A move like that can be a culture shock and it’s important to have the right representation, people you can rely on outside of the bubble of the club you play for. SMI have always given me that kind of stability and I’m enormously grateful to have had them on my side.
